Chiiiicago, where the wind goes sweepin' cross the plains!

(I'm intolerable on road trips- I insist on singing that song about every place we drive through. Anyway...)

The husband (whoa!) and I took a whirlwind trip to Chicago a few days ago- drove in one day, spent one night, drove out the next. Not enough time to see everyone/do everything we wanted to do, but fun nonetheless. Of course, I only brought my crappy iphone camera.

First stop was the aquarium to see the jellies. Crazy expensive... but we had to, because that's where (ish) we got engaged. It's a long story, involving there being NO JELLIES. But now, so many jellies!

These guys are the best- I think they're called "Blue Blubber". Crappy picture because they were in one of those stupid convex tanks.

And of course, my favorite things ever:

Then we wandered around Michigan Ave a little, since it was by our hotel:

Lego store! Let's get a closer look...

No, closer...

Lego men!

And my lego man:

There was lots of food and some friends in there somewhere, but of course I didn't take pictures of those parts. Derp. But no trip would be complete without stops at Loopy Yarns (felldowngoboom) and Nina:

For the interested, left to right we've got: Tosh Vintage in Fig, Tosh Vintage in Candlewick, Malabrigo Worsted in Frank Ochre, Malabrigo Silky Merino in Manzanilla Olive (on sale!), and Tosh Dk in Terrarium. It's been so long since I got to look at Madelinetosh in person, it's dangerous.

In other news, my hair is dark teal now, and very hard to photograph accurately.

  1. Aah, one of my all-time favorite cities and it looks like you had a blast. I'm lucky in that my LYS all carry Madtosh so when I need a fix (even just to squish them), I get to quite often. I'm also a huge fan of Malabrigo Worsted and have to say that I've never seen that amazing yellow -- woo hoo, what are you going to make with that!!?? And finally, your dark teal hair is beautiful!!!!!!

  2. I looooove Frank Ochre. It's like a vitamin I need regularly in my diet. As for plans...er... yeah I don't make those until later ;-) If you're a betting gal, I'd put your money on hats, but that's generally the case with me.

And thank you :-) I'm pleased with it, though it's faded oddly- the bottom 2/3 has gotten bluer/greener and the top has gotten blacker. So weird!

  3. Oh my, I love your teal hair. You seriously look like a mermaid to live with the seahorses!
Also loved Travis' pass the pipe picture with lego man.
You picked out some lovely yarn for souvenirs and I imagine those are actually work expensed for you! Just let me add here that your Darla pattern is my new favorite hat pattern. I am slow to post pictures on Rav, but I will. So far I have knit 2 and I am sure to make more. It's such a modern classic.

  5. Aww thank you Trista!

setinink- basically, he arranged the whole trip to Chicago so he could propose in the jellyfish room at the aquarium (I like jellies), only it turns out there wasn't one, and he had just imagined it or something. So panic ensued. Meanwhile I'm yelling at him for being so grumpy at the aquarium- it's a happy place, dammit! Haha. He ended up proposing just outside, in the snow with a nice view, and it was all just fine. But we had to go see the jellyfish exhibit now that it's there, haha.
