Ravelry

I got my Ravelry.com invitation today! It looks pretty neat...I'm a compulsive organizer at heart, so I think we'll get along just fine. I'm tempted to go back and put everything I've ever made and yarn I have into it but I think it'll be easier just to update those things as I go along. I just moved cross country and a lot of my yarn still isn't even here, so that's another good reason to take it slow, I suppose. I hope to get a designer/spinner account eventually, but I've got to get my shit together first. Ah well.

(By the way, I'm "Presents" on there, feel free to add me)

Zig Zag Scarf

Pattern 1! Please, if any of you use it, give me feedback regarding it's correct-ness and readability.

Scarf!

A close up of the front

The wrong side...I don't think it looks too bad, really.

...and yours truly modeling it in a smudgy mirror. Hooray for quality!

Yarn: Lousa Harding Grace Silk Wool, in black and some sort of light pink, I don't have the bands so I'm not sure the official color numbers or anything. Anything would work, really, though.
Needles: size 8 (American), a bit bigger than called for to make a slightly looser, drapy-er fabric.
Gauge: 5 st/inch, 7 rows/inch. Really not terribly important for this project, though.
Pattern: My own, as follows:

Notes: When starting a new triangle you will find you must drag one of the colors across the work from the other side where you left it. Make sure you leave floats of at least 8 inches so that you can cut them and weave the ends in later.

First wedge:
1: CO 2 stitches in color a using a longtail cast on. I count this as row 1 because it essentially knits the first row for you, and it’s easier to think of the rows in terms of pairs.
2 (and all evens, for now): Purl
3: Switch to color b. Kfb 2 times (4 stitches)
5: (color a) k1, m1, k2, m1, k1 (6 stitches)
7: (b) k1, m1, k4, m1, k1 (8)
9: (a) k1, m1, k6, m1, k1 (10)
11: (b) k1, m1, k8, m1, k1 (12)
13: (a) k1, m1, k10, m1, k1 (14)
15: (b) k1, m1, k12, m1, k1 (16)
17: (a) k1, m1, k14, m1, k1 (18)
18: Purl as usual

First (Right) Triangle

1: (a) k1, m1, k2tog, turn
2 (and all evens up to row 30): Purl back in the same color
3: (b) k1, m1, k1, k2tog, turn
5: (a) k1, m1, k2, k2tog, turn
7: (b) k1, m1, k3, k2tog, turn
9: (a) k1, m1, k4, k2tog, turn
11: (b) k1, m1, k5, k2tog, turn
13: (a) k1, m1, k6, k2tog, turn
15: (b) k1, m1, k7, k2tog, turn
17: (a) k1, m1, k8, k2tog, turn
19: (b) k1, m1, k9, k2tog, turn
21: (a) k1, m1, k10, k2tog, turn
23: (b) k1, m1, k11, k2tog, turn
25: (a) k1, m1, k12, k2tog, turn
27: (b) k1, m1, k13, k2tog, turn
29: (a) k1, m1, k14, k2tog, turn
31: (b) k1, m1, k15, k2tog
DO NOT PURL BACK. This stripe will be half as wide as the others.

Second (Left) Triangle

1: (b) p1, m1, p2tog, turn
2: (and all evens up to row 30): knit back in the same color
3: (a) p1, m1, p1, p2tog
5: (b) p1, m1, p2, p2tog
7: (a) p1, m1, p3, p2tog
9: (b) p1, m1, p4, p2tog
11: (a) p1, m1, p5, p2tog
13: (b) p1, m1, p6, p2tog
15: (a) p1, m1, p7, p2tog
17: (b) p1, m1, p8, p2tog
19: (a) p1, m1, p9, p2tog
21: (b) p1, m1, p10, p2tog
23: (a) p1, m1, p11, p2tog
25: (b) p1, m1, p12, p2tog
27: (a) p1, m1, p13, p2tog
29: (b) p1, m1, p14, p2tog
31: (a) p1, m1, p15, p2tog
DO NOT KNIT BACK

Repeat these two triangles until scarf is the desired length. End with a Left triangle.

Finishing Wedge:
1: (a) k1, m1, k2tog, turn
2 (and all evens up to row 30): Purl back in the same color
3: (b) k1, m1, k1, k2tog, turn
5: (a) k1, m1, k2, k2tog, turn
7: (b) k1, m1, k3, k2tog, turn
9: (a) k1, m1, k4, k2tog, turn
11: (b) k1, m1, k5, k2tog, turn
13: (a) k1, m1, k6, k2tog, turn
15: (b) k1, k2tog, k5, k2tog, turn
17: (a) k1, k2tog, k4, k2tog, turn
19: (b) k1, k2tog, k3, k2tog, turn
21: (a) k1, k2tog, k2, k2tog, turn
23: (b) k1, k2tog, k1, k2tog, turn
25: (a) k1, k2tog, k2tog, turn
27: (b) k2tog, k2tog, turn
29: (a) k1, k2tog, turn
31: (b) k1, k2tog
32: (b) p2tog, draw end through.

Cut long floats in the center and weave in all ends. Then, block the hell out of it. Whee! Add fringe as desired...I really debated between alternating colors and doing one end in each color... I may change my mind later, but eh. Good for now.

Salad Wristers*

They make me think of Salad Fingers, and also lichens.

I love this yarn, it's really silky (I thought it was pure silk while I was knitting with it, but I'm wrong) and pretty.

They look neat under other things.

Close up of the "lace" detail...if you can call it that.

Salad Wristers

Yarn: Artfibers’ Ming, Color 6, 1 ball (but if you choose to make them longer or wider, you will need more, as they come very close to using the entire ball.)
EDIT: I have realized, far too late, that Ming is sold by the yard, and I have no idea what size put up I had. I want to say it was about a 50 gram ball (so a bit over 100 yards, probably.) To be safe, I'll recommend 100 grams of whatever worsted weight you're using.

Sz 8 dpns
Gauge: 5 st/in, 6 rows/in

CO 28, Work in round in stockinette for 8 inches
Ruffle Rounds:
1: *K1, yo, repeat from *
2: K all
3. *K2, yo, repeat from *
4: K all
5. *K1, yo, repeat from *
6. BO using picot bind off as described here

(CO 2 with cable cast on, bind off four, repeat around.)

*Edit, had to change the name because apparently the original name is trademarked by some company that makes fleecey things. Eh, whatever. Wristers works.

The Materials

So you can see what I'm starting with. I've got plans laid for some of these, lots of sketches and so forth...others are still waiting for inspiration. We will see what becomes of it all. My camera is having some sort of ridiculous crisis...a lot of the pictures came out with the yarn heavily saturated and the bedsheet behind it (which should be green, as you can see in some of them) almost gray...I've edited them to show the yarn colors pretty accurately, so just ignore the background. Ugh.

Trendsetter Yosemite in Raspberry Sorbet (she wore a raaaaspberry sorbet....)
Only a bit of this left, so I don't know what will happen to it or if it will get used at all. I could always unravel the mostly unfinished neckwarmer i used the rest of it on.

Tahki Star... likely to be paired with some other yarn in order to make something more sparkly.

Tahki Lucky...I don't even really like this but I got it cheap, so I'll find a way.

Tahki Baby in a nice dark brown. No plans really, yet. Most of these are single or double skeins and will end up as some sort of accessory.

Mystery mohair. I'd like to use it but I'm hesitant to use something I can't identify....I just lost the damn label at some point. Dammit.

Plymouth Baby Alpaca Brush

Nashua Julia in, I believe, Coleus...I've already used it for some wristbands that I didn't write patterns for, but maybe I'll make more.

Misti Alpaca Lace, ideally for some lace bracelets or lace edging on other wrist/neckbands.

Malabrigo Merino in Velvet Grapes and Polar Morn...some of my favorite yarn ever. I already used this combo for a pretty awesome hat, I'm not sure what I'll do with it here, or if I'll even combine the two.

Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock in, I believe, Chocolate (though it seems sort of reddish for that to be the color)...and one half of the pair of gloves I'm making from it. I've got the pattern written down somewhere, I just have to find it so I can make the other one...

Glove!

Knit One, Crochet Too Temptation (color 227), no plans yet.

Malabrigo Merino in Amoroso, and a cutesy devil's hat in progress...I need to figure out how I want to make the horns, and locate the rest of the pattern.

Crystal Palace Yarns Glam (color 2138)...I usually don't go for the novelty stuff but this is kind of pretty and it was on sale. Haven't swatched it yet, so what it becomes will depend on how it knits up. Maybe I'll use it for the fringe and some sort of accent on a scarf, or something.

Cascade Jewel (color 9970, a dark charcoal gray)...probably armwarmers.

Cascade Eco Wool in some sort of red. No idea. A shrug?

Buzz yarns Vegas in gray/silver... some sort of small accessory, more likely than not. I don't have much and I'm not sure where to get more.

Berroco Ultra Silk, black... already used this for something that you'll likely see up in just a bit. Will probably use it for more, I really like it. I usually lean towards wools and natural fibers, but this stuff is nice.

Berroco Softwist in (I think) Palmetto...these are tagged for some small, ruffly cuffs/wristwarmers.

Berroco Lullaby in black and color 4208. Probably long striped armwarmers, legwarmers, or a shrug.

Berroco Boho in black and color 4276. This stuff is really cool. I tried to use the black for a thong but it had some structural difficulties I'm still working on fixing..er. The rest will probably go for a little decorative scarf, or headbands.

Adrienne Vittadini Trina color 112, I'm not sure where these will go yet.

Adrienne Vittadini Dianna in black...there's actually enough of this for some sort of garment, so that's likely what will happen to it. A tank/bustier/corset, probably.

Skacel Alpaca Seta in gray/black and burg/black. I've used some of this for hats in the past... I don't know what the rest of it will be, or even if the gray will get to be included. It's very soft but the two-color ply doesn't lend itself to every situation, you know?

And that's that, for now...as much for my reference as yours :-P

The Goal

To create a series of marketable knitting patterns that I actually like, and which will probably lean a little bit to the gothy/indie/goofy end of the spectrum. So, hooray. I usually make stuff up as I go and it makes it really hard to replicate it if I want to later, so it would be really lovely of me to actually take the time to write things down, and maybe even (gasp) design them before casting on.

This project might not get started for a little while as I'm currently obscenely busy...but that's alright. Slowly but surely.
